The revised Ofsted framework has been in operation since September ’09. This session will provide an overview of the revised inspection arrangements, look at the key features of the new system, explain how inspections will be conducted, and explore the key lesson/ learning points from the first twelve months. It will also look at the expectations Ofsted have of governing bodies and their role in the process.

AU1005 - Making sense of school performance data: RAISEonline
The 2010 SATs and exam results are in – what do you make of them? In order to support and challenge schools effectively, governors need to understand how their school is performing and what questions to ask the senior leadership team. This session will look at RAISEonline, which provides importance contextual information on schools and an analysis of school and pupil performance data. This includes information on SATs/ other public examinations, value added measures, the performance of different cohorts of pupils, and trend/ benchmarking data etc. The session will also inform governors on how they can access RAISE and set up an account at their school. Attending the session will help you undertake your “critical friend” role more effectively, and make a positive contribution to the self-evaluation form and school improvement plan

The session will explain what academies are, what’s on offer, the processes involved, and the implications of converting to an academy, both for individual schools and the local authority.

In addition the “safeguarding” approach to child protection will be covered in detail, focusing on the various roles and responsibilities.

DfE and the Council on Tribunals strongly recommend that all governors who serve on Pupil Discipline Committees receive suitable training. The session will review the procedures surrounding exclusions and raise awareness of the role and responsibilities of governors (and others) in the process. Reference will also be made to changes introduced by the Education and Inspections Act 2006, and the new guidance document for exclusions, which became operative in September 2008.

The Agreed Syllabus is the statutory document which defines the RE which should be taught and learned in Tameside community and voluntary controlled primary schools and community and foundation high schools. It is also applicable in Academies and special schools. Governors with an interest in or responsibility for RE are encouraged to attend to see how they can contribute to ensuring that learning in RE in Tameside schools is coherent and enriching, and contributes to Community Cohesion.
